Le Montanine Overview

Le Montanine is a graceful 15th century estate overlooking a beautiful stretch of countryside on the green hills of Chianti only 10 Km south from Florence. Situated among pine and cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves, Le Montanine is the ideal place for a relaxing vacation. You will enjoy the magnificent vistas of Florence and the surrounding mountains in this peaceful setting while being close enough to take advantage of Florence sights, the many hill towns and wine regions, Chianti being one of them.

Le Montanine offers three houses on the estate depending on your group size. The family villa - La Poggio - accommodates the largest group and can sleep up to 20 people – 9 double bedrooms, 2 single bedrooms (most have balconies) and 7 bathrooms, a spacious kitchen, dining room, living rooms and a wonderful terraced garden.

Il Villino is a spacious house for 6 people adjacent to the estate’s former family church. Secluded among the Mediterranean pines, the large kitchen opens onto a terrace for dining alfresco. There are 3 balconied double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in this house.

La Sughera is a renovated farmhouse that accommodates up to 12 people. Guests at this spacious house can enjoy their meals on a large porticoed terrace and admire the beauty of the surrounding Chianti hills.

From this estate, you are conveniently located to visit the many historical and artistic cities of central Italy, from Florence and Siena to San Gimignano and Volterra, from Lucca to Pisa and to the sunny beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. The estate has many walking trails you can use at your leisure and nearby there is the large park of Poggio Valicaia. Or simply rest and relax in the sun by the swimming pool.

The estate has play areas for the youngest guests and they can have fun sliding down the toboggan, swinging or jumping on the elastic carpet of the play areas. With some advance notice the proprietor’s son will organize children’s expeditions to old castles submerged in the forest, silver mines, ancient mills, WWII trenches of the famous German Gothic Line on Apennines mountain range. His children will accompany the group on the adventures.

The Le Montanine estate is 74 hectares (182 acres) made up by 11 hectares of vineyards and 20 hectares of olive groves, while the woodland amounts to 30 hectares. The wines and olive oil produced by the estate have been consistently recognized for their quality. The particular microclimate of the area, the favorable characteristics of the soil and the old age of some vineyards largely contribute to the quality of the harvested grapes. While the family uses the most modern technologies in producing their wines, the winemaking processing still remains very traditional. You may ask for an organized guided tour of the farm and cellar, as well as wine tasting.
