Montecastello is a hilltop estate located on the edge of the Montagnola nature reserve with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Originally a castle and later a Benedictine monastery, this 1000 year old hamlet is located on an ancient road known as La Francigena. The ancient road was a major north-south route through Italy toward Rome taken by pilgrims, soldiers and merchants from Rome to France. Nestled in the country Montecastello is between the hill towns of Siena and San Gimignano; both Florence and Siena are each less than an hour drive away.

The Villa can accommodate a large group or smaller groups as the house is comprised of four separate apartments of different sizes. The entire house can be rented with the upper two apartments combining into a large floor plan and the other 2 apartments located on the ground floor with private entrances.

For smaller groups one may rent the individual apartments each named after the major varieties of olives grown on the estate. The apartments are: Pendolino (sleeps 2), Leccino (sleeps 2+2), Moraiolo (sleeps 4+2) and Frantoio (sleeps 6). Joining the Moraiolo and Frantoio apartments – Frantoio Grande (sleeps 10) will consist of the entire upper floor of the villa along with the professional kitchen and formal dining room located on the first floor.

All of the renovations have kept the traditional Tuscan characteristics of terra cotta tiled floors, wood beamed ceilings, large wood-burning fireplaces and smooth finished walls, some painted in lovely soft Tuscan colors. The villa is tastefully furnished with comfortable furniture in the living area and bedrooms. Each apartment has a private terrace or pergola with table and chairs for dining al fresco, sipping your morning coffee or just relaxing with the exquisite views.

From this estate you are conveniently located to visit many surrounding sights, hill towns and wine regions. The countryside offers plenty of outdoor activities from cycling to hiking on well-marked trails through the rolling mountains. Montecastello is an organic farm growing and producing a variety of olives for their superb olive oil. They have a seasonal vegetable garden and flower garden with lavender, rosemary and jasmine. There is much history and appreciation for Tuscan life here at Montecastello.
