The city of Siena maintains its 14th century appearance
and is a perfect example of a medieval city. Spread over
three hills, the majestic city is at the center of Tuscany.
Siena offers the infamous Palio, a bi-annual bareback horse
race that takes place in the main Piazza del Campo every
July 2nd and August 16th. Siena is rich with museums, history,
shopping and numerous restaurants. The Wednesday morning
market near the Fortezza is not to be missed to pick up treasures
from the area and mix with the local Sienese.
Staying near Siena is convenient for day trips to the north
to visit Florence via bus, train or car; or to the south
for exploring the beautiful countryside. Conveniently located
to the world reknowned wine regions of Chianti Classico,
Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano,
as well as Florence and numerous historical hill towns, make
the Siena area an ideal base. |
